What's new
Stencil can now search the open web for specimens. Add a new
Web search
source to an application, and the specimen hunt looks beyond the applicant's own website and the usual marketplaces. It can surface use of the mark on pages such as distributor sites, booking platforms, social profiles, event pages or the applicant's other domains.- Results are filtered to pages that mention the mark, and are graded like any other specimen.
- Pages on the applicant's own site are left out, because the existing site search already covers them.
- Lookalike-store pages are dropped from the results.
- Specimens found this way are labeled Found by web search.
- A web-search specimen does not become a source automatically. On its card you can choose Pin to this term, which saves the page as a pinned specimen URL. You can also chooseAdd as client website, which adds that domain as one of the applicant's websites.
Why it matters
Until now, the specimen hunt checked only the owner's site and brand-scoped marketplaces. Services classes got only image results. Good specimens on third-party or secondary sites were never found. Web search closes that gap, so you get more options to choose from, especially for services. Third-party pages stay out of your research and ID drafting unless you choose to add them.
How to use it
- Open a Stencil application.
